If you are of a certain generation, you’ve not only heard the expression “so-and-so has jumped the shark” but also you know whence it came.
For our younger subscribers, the pop-culture reference revolves around the TV sitcom Happy Days, in which the lovable greaser, Arthur “The Fonz” or “Fonzie” Fonzerelli accepts an “honor” challenge, then hops on a pair of water skis to jump over a open-ocean pen containing a man eater shark. The episode has been mercilessly mocked since, and persists as a pejorative, describing an absurd attempt to generate attention and publicity for any movement, organization, product, etc., waning in significance.
Given that, one can’t help but wonder if here in Bizarro World, the Left is currently “Jumping the Shark?”
